Main View

Aubade starts with the main view. Here you will find the main operating and display elements, which are described in the following sections. From top to bottom these are the action bar, the audio tracks, the timeline, the text field, the level meter and the control buttons.

Action Bar

The action bar is located at the top of the main view. From left to right, it contains the following elements.

Details of all these actions are described in the Main Menu chapter.

Audio Tracks

The audio tracks show the waveforms of the audio signals. All eight tracks are displayed simultaneously on large screens, such as tablets. Not all tracks are visible at the same time on smaller screens, but can then be moved by vertical scrolling. The tracks can also be moved horizontally.
In the horizontal center of the screen, the playback cursor is drawn vertically over the audio tracks. When playing or recording, the audio tracks move under the playback cursor.
The following elements are drawn over the audio tracks on the left margin.

A single-tap on a track opens the context menu. The context menu of a track provides various actions for this particular track, e.g. import audio, apply effects and others.

Timeline

The timeline below the audio tracks measures the time from the start of the tracks in minutes and seconds.

Text Field

A text field can be shown below the timeline using the main menu. The text field moves parallel to the audio tracks and can be used, for example, to display the lyrics and the chords to be played; the text field has two lines.
In order to accommodate longer texts in sync with the waveform, the audio tracks can be spread out in time (zoom). This works, as is common practice, using the two-finger gesture (pinch).

Entering texts and changing or deleting existing texts work as follows.

On the left edge of the text field are the undo and redo buttons, with which changes can be undone or redone.

Level Meter

The level meter is located in the lower area of the screen. The top line stands for the left audio channel, the bottom line stands for the right audio channel.
During playback, the level meter shows the level of the audio signal being played back.
The level of the recorded audio signal is displayed during recording.
If there is neither recording nor playback, the level meter shows the level of the audio signal on the microphone. This is helpful to find a suitable recording level. The recording level should be as high as possible, but the meter should remain as green as possible and should rarely turn orange.

Control Buttons

At the bottom of the screen are the four buttons for controlling playback and recording.

Skip to Start Skip to Start: Jump to position 0:00.0
Play Play: Mix and play all (unmuted) tracks from the current position. When the markers are active, the sequence between the markers is played in an endless loop.
Stop Stop: Stop recording or playback.
Record Record: Start recording on the selected recording track. The recording starts at the current position. The other (unmuted) tracks are played back during recording. Recording is disabled while the markers are active.
